Use the official IRS refund-status tool for the current status of your return. Processing estimates are not promises.
What you need
Have your Social Security number or taxpayer identification number, filing status and exact refund amount ready. Enter those details only on the official IRS tool.
Processing and delays
Many electronically filed refunds are issued within 21 days, but corrections, identity checks and other reviews can take longer. Paper and amended returns follow different processing timelines. Follow the status tool’s instructions on when to contact the IRS.
If the IRS asks for information
